Since Trump’s shock victory, people have begun to speculate about who his successor will be and a number of celebrities have been tipped to run including The Rock and Kanye West. Now, Oprah’s name has also been thrown into the ring.

Sixty-three-year-old Oprah is a staple of American culture. She has used her platform as a talk show host to highlight a number of important societal issues including racism and women’s rights, which has seen her dubbed one of the most influential women in the world.

She is so influential that her endorsement of Barack Obama helped him to obtain over a million votes in the 2008 Democratic primary race.

To celebrate Oprah’s achievements in the media, she was awarded the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement award at the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony. This was a historic event because she is the first black woman to have ever received the award.

But what was arguably even more momentous was her acceptance speech. She called out the abusers whose misconduct has come to light in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, as well as highlighting the injustices of racism and the importance of press freedom.

Oprah proudly declared that a “new day is on the horizon”, and fans have now begun to speculate about whether or not this was her way of announcing her intention to run for the presidency. In fact, many took to Twitter to voice their support of President Winfrey.
