13 Dec Sikh Professor’s Mom Shuts Down Racist Twitter Trolls In The Purest Way Possible
One of the downsides of the internet is that it’s given people a new way to express their prejudiced views. It doesn’t matter whether they’re homophobic, racist, or simply senseless bullying, many people come together online in order to tear others down.
Simran Jeet Singh is a prominent New York-based professor, writer, and activist. He uses his voice on the internet to spread messages of love, positivity, and acceptance, but unfortunately, his prominence on Twitter has made him a target for racist abuse.
But when his mom recently joined the microblogging website, she decided to shut down his trolls in the purest way possible…
It didn’t take long for Singh’s mom to realize that her son was receiving a lot of messages which said exactly the same thing. Instead of becoming upset that he was the subject of a barrage of racist abuse, she decided to interpret the tweets in the most positive way she could.
“My mom just joined Twitter and saw all the racist messages where people tell me to ‘go home’ and ‘go back to where I came from.’ She wanted to thank you all. She really wants me to move back to Texas,” Singh hilariously wrote.
If you’ve moved away from your hometown, you’ll understand how difficult it is for your mom to accept that she won’t be seeing you so often. More often than not, moms make it their mission to convince you to, quite literally, “go back to where you came from”.
After Buzzfeed first broke this story, Someecards interviewed Singh about his awesome mom.
