But where, exactly, would be the best place to put a fallout shelter? Even if you haven’t gone to extremes and are just curious about your odds of surviving World War III, here is a list of the best countries to live in should a global conflict break out.

The results are based on the Global Peace Index for 2017. If you’re looking for the United States to be on the list, you won’t find it in the top ten, or even the top 100 most peaceful countries.

Sadly, it ranked 144th, well below nations like Bangladesh, Haiti, and Rwanda.

According to the Global Peace Index 2017, here are the top 10 safest places to live in the event of WWIII.

10. Ireland

The Emerald Isle is a great place to survive WWIII. The island nation was neutral during the Second World War, and has practiced neutrality since the 1930s. Also, it may be one of the least likely places to suffer from potential nuclear fallout!

Colonel Albert Bachmann, head of Swiss military intelligence, chose to build a bunker in West Cork, a remote area of the country, during the 1970s. Even if you can’t get inside a bunker, chances are there will still be a pub serving Guinness as the world ends.

9. Switzerland

While Switzerland may not be considered as good as Ireland for surviving a nuclear war, it has practiced neutrality for a lot longer. The small country has the longest history of military neutrality, dating back to 1815. The many mountains in the nation also fortify it against attack, making it an idea spot to hide away in the hills.

8. Slovenia

Slovenia tends to stay away from conflict and didn’t become too involved in either previous World War. It is also incredibly self-sufficient. The nation’s focus on thermal, hydro, and solar energy means that they wouldn’t need to rely on other countries for energy should conflict break out.
