29 Oct Astronaut Has Revealed What Space Smells Like (And It Isn’t Good)
In 2015, Astronaut Scott Kelly broke the record for the total number of accumulated days in space: 520. He is a former US Navy Captain, has been on four space flights, spent 340 consecutive days onboard the International Space Station, and he and his twin brother, Mark, are the only siblings to ever go into outer space!
So when Scott Kelly has something to say about the universe, people listen. Kelly recently participated in a Twitter Q&A where he discussed what it was like living off of planet Earth for so long.
He revealed that the most frightening thing about being an astronaut is being away from his family for so long. He said that the thought of something happening to his loved ones while he was away was quite scary.
But when asked if he would ever consider going back to space, he said that he would return right now if he could, joking with a Twitter follower, “Can you help me with that?”
When asked his opinion on ‘flat-earthers’, he explained that he had seen Earth from outer space and can confirm that it is indeed round. He also questioned, if Earth were flat, wouldn’t it become a popular vacation spot?
“I know I would want to look over that edge,” he said, and then finished his response by adding, “and that’s all I have to say about that.”
He revealed that the International Space Station can sometimes smell like garbage, depending on where one stands on the station. That’s because, despite an attempt to make as little waste as possible, every piece of trash is saved until the return to Earth.
Space, however, smells quite a bit different.
