25 Sep Hitler’s “Surprisingly Large” Underpants Have Just Been Sold For A Serious Amount Of Cash

Hitler has undeniably been the most-talked about historical figure over the last several decades. I mean, it’s almost unbelievable when you think that less than a century ago, a (presumably) mentally unstable openly racist man became the leader of his country and tried to conquer the whole of Europe, sending millions of innocent people to their death in the process.

There’s no doubt about the fact that, while we’re all (aside from the neo-Nazis amongst us) incredibly disgusted by the man, we’re also very intrigued by him. I mean, he and the history he helped shape was certainly a dominant part of the curriculum in a lot of my history lessons at school.

We’re so intrigued by him in fact that there are a few of us who are even willing to shell out quite a bit of money for Nazi memorabilia. While you might wonder if those who are willing to buy such memorabilia subscribe to Hitler’s far right ideology, it’s quite likely that they’re just uber-dedicated history buffs.

There are a few of his items I can imagine being sold for a fortune: his passport, his letters and even a few strands of his famous moustache perhaps. However, one piece of memorabilia I wouldn’t have expected to be in demand is a very ordinary pair of underpants once worn by the facist dictator.

And yet that’s exactly what happened – Adolf Hitler’s underwear was recently sold for $6,737 in Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City, Maryland .

Considering the narcissist we know Hitler to be, the underwear was unsurprisingly initialled “AH”. However, what most of us weren’t expecting was for them to be quite as large as they were – in fact, they even have a 39-inch waist.

The underpants were found in a suite at the luxurious Austrian hotel, Parkhotel Graz, after Hitler stayed there in April 1938.

Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany a few weeks earlier, and it is believed that Hitler was staying at the hotel while on tour in Austria where he hoped to gather support for the annexation. He ultimately received 99.7% support from the Austrian public.
