This brave new world in which we find ourselves does not come without its foibles.

In particular for women, maintaining a healthy relationship with one’s body image can prove an ongoing struggle, confronted as all of us in modern culture are with beach-ready bodies and sleek photographs of emollient-skinned beauties advertising the latest teeth whitening product on Instagram.

Perfection is, it would seem, a paradigm to which we must all haplessly aspire, weighed down by the heavy knowledge that most of us are shooting for the moon with a rudimentary homemade catapult.

Of course, expectation breeds familiarity, as more and more women toil endlessly in the gym to achieve the body that false idols have so keenly perpetuated as perfect, and men follow suit, hoisting ever more substantial materials over their heads in their relentless pursuit of Adonis-like utopia.

The struggle, then, is constant and real. The line is also fine – between a healthy relationship with exercise and balanced eating (which can surely only be a good thing), and an obsession with dieting that could cause significant damage to an individual.

One Instagram, user, Jazzy, has summed up this struggle eloquently with a bathing suit photograph posted to the image sharing website; alongside it is a caption in which she opens up about the struggle of learning to embrace her body alongside her husband, who was “born fit”.
