14 Jun Plane Carrying 116 People Goes Missing over Dawei
The world of air travel has seen higher security in recent years, with several high profile incidents doing nothing to assuage the fears of those afraid to fly.
Though the chances of anything going wrong are statistically minuscule, tragic cases do, of course, occur. These then become big stories themselves partly due to how rare such incidents are.
Missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which had 239 passengers on board when air traffic control staff lost contact with the plane, was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.
The initial search for that flight focused on the South China Sea before evidence from a military radar suggested that the plane had veered off course to head west.
Of course, such instances are incredibly rare, though it would appear that, once again, a plane has gone missing, this time around Burma.
