Trump’s Revised Travel Ban Is Now Officially in Effect

Donald Trump’s highly effective election campaign was one characterised by bombast and wild declarations; the former businessman has defied convention right from the offset, winning the Presidency despite a dearth of political experience – or perhaps chiefly due to that lack of affiliation with a political elite that many Americans felt disenfranchised from.

Those who had hoped that the divisive policy proposals and incendiary soundbites that made up much of the Trump campaign might be tempered somewhat once he assumed the office of the Presidency will have been dismayed by the 71-year-old’s opening salvo in the White House.

The President has lurched alarmingly from polarising policy to apparently misguided comments seemingly from his first day as President, and wasted no time in signing an executive order on a travel ban intended to prevent citizens from several countries entering the United States. The initial directive, as well as a subsequent redraft intended as a more emollient version of its predecessor, were both blocked in court, the latter before it could be practically implemented.

That, though, is not the end of the labyrinthine saga. A supreme court ruling partially reinstated the ban – blocked by lower courts – on Monday, and the newly revised directive has been implemented with dizzying speed in retrospect.
