Everyone loves a bargain.
Perhaps it is the feeling that you are cheating the system in some way, sticking it to the man. Possibly, it is a little more rudimentary than that; maybe it’s the simple, warm glow that comes hand in hand with saving a considerable amount of cash, on something you may or may not need.
Often, bargains are limited to the “reduced” sections of supermarkets and the uncertain corridors of coupon-style websites. On more occasions than I care to admit, I have scuttled along to the supermarket mere minutes before it closes for the night in a desperate bid to get my hands on reduced goods. The thrill and the rush of seeing that hallowed yellow sticker with “reduced” emblazoned atop in all its glory is more fulfilling than I feel comfortable expressing.
Though these savings are on a relatively modest scale, they feed into my illusions of some heady parallel universe in which I am a bargain financial guru, travelling the world in a noble quest for the best possible bargain.
Quite how I, or any other bargain hunter, would react to landing what appears as nothing less than the saving of the century, then, is anyone’s guess. One San Fransisco couple, though, might have just pulled it off.
