We’ve all had the experience of getting a terrible passport or driving license photo and have had to live with the consequences of it for the years that follow.

Whether it’s zits, your eye deciding it’s going to be bloodshot for the day, or just a bad hair day, it’s rare that we like our passport photos, but we can deal with them. At the end of the day, it’s pretty much impossible to look good in that lighting and pulling such a gormless expression, isn’t it?

That’s what I constantly tell myself anyway.

While the majority of us hate our passports because we think they make us look ugly, one unlucky woman from Austin, Texas, appears to be on the end from some serious trolling from the passport office, and makes our passport photos look like modelling headshots.

Chelsey Ramos, 27, needed to get her passport renewed before setting off on a trip to Germany for her boyfriend’s 30th birthday. Her boyfriend, Reece Lagunas, had to apply for his passport, so the couple headed down to their local Costco to get their photos taken. While the photos they got back from the machine turned out fine, what Ramos got back from the State Department is, well, not fine.
