07 Aug Young British Family Shot After Taking A Wrong Turn In A Brazilian Slum

A young British family who were enjoying a holiday in Brazil were shot at by violent criminals after taking the wrong turn during a search for water. The shooting, which occurred in an impoverished and gang-controlled district outside of Rio de Janiero, has left one woman wounded – although she is thought to be in a stable condition.

Brazilian police said that a couple and their children, who are all under the age of four, were driving in Angra Dos Reis, a coastal holiday destination that is around 90 miles from Rio, when the frightening incident occurred.

They say that a group of criminals approached the family’s car and told them to get out, before opening fire on them and injuring the woman. In a statement issued by the police, they said that the woman, who is has been identified locally as Eloise Dixon, 46, was hit twice in the stomach and was now being treated in hospital for her injuries. Amazingly, the rest of the family remained physically unscathed.
