03 Aug Another Police Body Cam Video Allegedly Shows Officers Planting Drugs

Despite being instilled with a sense of respect for the police from a young age, it’s apparent that our trust in authority figures has been dwindling as reports continue to surface about instances where they have exploited their power. In truth, America’s relationship with its police forces has been fraught for decades.

The country’s open policy on firearms has meant that police killings are not unusual but incredibly commonplace. The Guardian asserts that police killings occur almost daily in the USA, and on average three times a day. In a significant number of these instances, grieving family members and friends have contested the death of their loved one as “wrongful”.

Certainly, the Black Lives Matter movement was started in response to the disproportionate number of deaths of black civilians at the hands of the police. The community rose to prominence in 2013 after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of the African-American teenager, Trayvon Martin.

Unfortunately, things have not improved much in the four years since. Recent video footage appears to show Baltimore police officers planting drugs inside a woman’s car. And this is the second time in the space of a few weeks that footage from police body-cameras have raised questions of potential misconduct.
