Major UK Retailer Becomes The First To Cover The ‘Tampon Tax’ For Its Customers

It’s mad to think that the topic of menstruation remains such a controversial one in the 21st century. No one wants to talk about the issue, and while it is covered in sex education classes, a lot of information is left out. This rings especially true for the male students who will find it harder to understand what women are going through without knowing those details.

The lack of information and conversation over these issues is what leads to legislation that, frankly, doesn’t make much sense. Tampons, pads, and other sanitary products end up being referred to as not essential items, despite the fact that the female population need to use them for a large portion of their lives.

A culmination of this trend in many ways was the taxing of these products, dubbed “The Tampon Tax”. But the extra 5 per cent on cost of the essential items has now been covered by the supermarket chain Tesco, who have confirmed it is cutting the price of sanitary products to match any overall cost of these products in the UK.
