31 Jul This Is The One Famous Voice Denied A Cameo On ‘The Simpsons’
The Simpsons, more so than any other show, is known for its plethora of guest appearances. Whether they be actors, politicians, singers, comedians or aging rock bands – the number of times celebrities have made a cameo appearance on the show is mounting. In fact, as of 2016 (and including The Simpsons movie), the show has had a whopping 762 guest stars since its conception in 1989.
Guests either appear as new characters or as themselves, with the first in the latter category being American singer Tony Bennett, who appeared in the season 2 episode “Dancin’ Homer” in 1990. In the 27 years and 618 episodes since then, everyone from Danny DeVito to Leonard Nimoy to Lady Gaga to the The Rolling Stones have appeared on the show.
In many ways appearing as a voice actor, especially playing yourself, is a badge of honour for people moving up in the world. You know you’ve made it when you are well-known enough to get on The Simpsons, but by now it feels as if almost every celebrity has turned up on the show. Once Justin Bieber turns up as himself, there’s no going back. But there is one celebrity that the writers outright refused to allow appear on the show.
