British Treasure Hunters Uncover $130 Million Worth Of Nazi Gold In German Shipwreck

Ever since the end of the Second World War in 1945, there have been rumours about so-called “Nazi Gold”. It is believed that Adolf Hitler’s regime would routinely loot the remaining assets of its victims to help finance the war, with the money collected in secret depositories. Transfers of gold would take place between many unknown institutions, with the precious metal being traded for currency.

As these stolen resources were supposedly traded into various different currencies across European banks during the war, locating any remaining Nazi gold is a highly improbable task. It has been the subject of a plethora of conspiracy theories, books and movies in the years since. Even the Vatican has been accused of potentially holding 200 million Swiss francs ($211 million), a sum largely in gold coins, which it was posited were transferred to the Vatican City.

While this civil suit didn’t succeed in proving the connection, there is presumably still gold out in the world that the Nazis had hidden or lost during the war. There seems to be credence to this theory, as a team of British treasure hunters have reportedly discovered £100 million ($130 million) of gold in a sunken Nazi vessel.
