27 Jul Britain Set To Ban The Production Of Petrol And Diesel Vehicles By 2040
It has long been suspected, quietly, that electric cars must soon take up the mantle of their gasoline-hungry predecessors.
By and large, our society appears to have accepted that climate change and polluted air are very real and present dangers to our way of life. Of course it is easy, in the case of air pollution, to sweep concerns under the carpet; after all, pollution is, mostly, an invisible issue, an insidious health risk that slowly, quietly, wreaks havoc on our health.
Climate change faced similar problems in the past. While sceptics loudly scoffed that their holiday to Alaska had been just as chilly as the year before, even those with genuine concerns about the future of our environment found it easy to close their eyes and wilfully ignore the issue. After all, how does one go about tackling such a monumentally global issue? What difference, we might think, does switching our lights off in unused rooms of the house really make? Does one person switching from a petrol or diesel car to an electric one really contribute much in the way of positive change in the grand scheme of things? Of course, this attitude perpetuates the problem, but with air pollution reaching dangerously high levels in several areas of the United Kingdom, the government has finally acted.
