Sometimes, we can all feel as if we’re not really suited to the world around us, but if you’re left-handed, a minority making up 10 percent of the population, then that assumption really rings true. Not only is using your left hand to shake hands or pass food deemed offensive in some cultures in Africa or the Far East, but statistically, southpaws are more likely to do poorly in school exams, or die in a car accident.

This is in part due to the fact the majority of machines and tools are designed exclusively with right-handers in mind, and if you happen to be a lefty, you’ll remember having significant struggles with these appliances and objects in particular:

1. Learning the guitar requires you to completely restring the instrument to your left-handedness

2. Using a computer is also nigh-impossible

3. Let’s not get into the smudging hell that is trying to write with a pen left-handed

4. In the wrong hand, serrated knives are pretty much butter knives

5. You can’t really see what cards you have when you hold them in your left hand
