Imagine getting a new dog every year. Hard to imagine that level of unbridled joy, isn’t it? Just imagine it: it would be like Christmas on steroids. You wouldn’t be able to sleep on Dogday Eve, due to the sheer excitement of waking up in the morning to a new pup. In fact, you know what, we should make this an actual thing. Forget about Christmas, keep your Calvin Kleins and Hugo Boss aftershave, I don’t want them! Put away those chocolates, mom, I am not interested.

While Dogday may not exist for the majority of us, for one couple based in Texas, it’s a reality. Neydi and Carlos Romero got married four years ago, and have got a new pup for each year of their anniversaries. You’ve got Teddy (left), Captain (right), and their newest family member, Chewy (the bundle of joy on the lap).

“For our first anniversary Carlos brought in Captain without telling me,” Neydi said. “Then for the second anniversary, we brought in Teddy. Me and Carlos were talking about how we get a dog every single year and we were talking about continuing with the tradition.” Seeing as they have recently celebrated their third wedding anniversary, the couple decided to adopt Chewy as well.

“I didn’t want the last one,” said Neydi. But once she had seen the conditions Chewy was living in, she couldn’t say no. “He wasn’t very safe, so we decided to bring him in.”
