Shia LaBeouf is one of those actors that I just can’t seem to peg. He’s determined to establish himself as an intense method actor, and is known for throwing himself wholeheartedly into roles with an almost obsessional level of commitment (he cut his face, pulled out a tooth, and refused to bathe in order to get into character for the role of Bible in the period war movie Fury).

Yet despite this, he’s probably better know for the big Hollywood blockbusters he’s starred in, such as the Transformers series or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, than for the more obscure projects on his resume, or his provocative performance art installations.

These days it feels like LaBeouf’s career has been overshadowed by controversy. You’re more likely to hear about his erratic behaviour or clashes with police and fans than you will about his performances. The most recent incident occurred on January 26, when LaBeouf charged with misdemeanor assault and a harassment violation after he got himself into a physical altercation during an anti-Donald Trump rally in front of the Museum of the Moving Image.

As damaging as this incident was for his public image, it’s nothing compared to his most recent spat, which is already circulating social media. In the early hours of January 8, LaBeouf was arrested in Savannah, Georgia on a charge of drunken misconduct. Now the police bodycam footage of the dramatic arrest has been leaked online, and shows LaBeouf threatening a cop and loudly verbally abusing police officers.
