14 Jul Facebook Is Always Tracking Your Location, Here Is How To Stop It
It seems like we’re getting closer towards an age where we are constantly being watched and monitored by other people. It’s almost like George Orwell predicted when he wrote 1984 (which if you haven’t read, you definitely should); our every move, thought or conversation is now traced and registered by the higher powers.
Many people cover their laptop cameras, in the fear that someone is watching them. A lot of us, including me, turn off our location services on our iPhones (which makes getting an Uber even more of a hassle) as we don’t like the idea that we’re being traced wherever we go.
I even use cash to pay for things most of the time; I don’t like to use Apple Pay, as the idea of relying on my phone, which can be easily monitored and tracked, to do everything in my life freaks me out a little bit.
The latest piece of technology to heighten this feeling of paranoia was Snap Maps. The incredibly intrusive feature, which was added to Snapchat a few weeks ago, allows users to see where their friends are at any given moment.
There have already been plenty of instances where people have been caught out for being somewhere that they’re not meant to be, such as McDonald’s when you’re on a diet, or at the bar when you said you were at work, and many users have been critical of the invasive nature of the feature.
However, it turns out Facebook have been doing something fairly similar for a while without any of us really knowing.
