The cinematic experience is like nothing else in our world. We watch movies expecting to be entertained, and what does being entertained often involve? Ludicrous plots and insane twists that are out of this world. We generally believe that the movies we watch are entirely fictional, especially when those movies are Sci-fi epics set sometime in the future.

However, although many films set in the future depict an amazing fictional world very different to the one the audience was very familiar with, years (or even decades) down the line, it turns out the writers were pretty accurate when predicting the future. So perhaps we don’t need to suspend our belief as much as we think we do when we’re at the movies…

1. Back To The Future Part II (1989)

The Back To The Future franchise is a total classic that most of people will have watched at some point during their childhoods. The sequel to the first movie of the franchise predicted a number of things about the year 2015 (and specifically the 21st of October, 2015) that ended up being a reality (and of course a lot of things that still haven’t happened yet). The best thing the movie predicted about 2015 that ended up being a reality was… big flat screen TVs. I mean, who didn’t have one of those in 2015?
