Last week, Jay Z released his first album since 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, entitled 4:44. Available exclusively to users of the streaming service Tidal or to customers on the US mobile network Sprint, the album has been certified platinum in just over a week, dwarfing Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.

Discussing intimate topics such as the trappings of fame for African Americans or Jay Z’s high-profile cheating scandal regarding his wife Beyoncé, the album has already captured the attention and imagination of rap fans everywhere.

One man who is significantly unimpressed, however, is fellow rapper 50 Cent. Best known for songs like In Da Club and Candy Shop, 50 Cent has taken the time to listen to Jay Z’s new album, and pulled no punches in his review, describing the new tunes as “golf course music”.
