10 Jul United Airlines Force Mother To Hold Toddler For Entire Flight After Giving Away His $1000 Seat
Oh how we hanker after the golden age of aviation. Those heady days of yore in which, we are assured, passengers dressed up to the nines in anticipation of boarding a flight; where Chateaubriand – one presumes – was served at mealtimes and the notion of witnessing an inconsiderate fellow flyer clopping down the aisle in flip flops would have been unthinkable.
When our misty eyed counterparts wax lyrical about such times, it is difficult not to feel a pang of envy, so unrecognisable is the aviation landscape in the present day.
Now, bare feet have replaced smart shoes, acceptable leg room shunned to maximise the plane’s capacity, while aeroplane meals are forgettable at best, and nigh on indigestible at worst.
Of course, we shouldn’t complain too much; aeroplane travel is a privilege, not some divine right, and much of the stripping back process that has taken place in commercial aviation can be attributed to its widening accessibility to those with less money. Budget airlines became de rigeur several years ago, providing intense competition for their more expensive counterparts, and as such, the entire landscape of commercial aviation has shifted somewhat. To say that this has led to some high profile incidents, particularly in recent months, would be an understatement.
