24 Jun The Man Arrested for the Finsbury Park Attack Has Been Charged with Terrorism-Related Murder
A man has appeared in court after being charged with terrorism-related murder and attempted murder following the van attack that happened at a Finsbury Park mosque on Monday 19 June. The attack, where a van drove into a crowd of people outside the mosque, killed one person and injured 10.
In a statement read out by a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution service, it was revealed:
“Today, the CPS authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Darren Osborne with terrorism-related murder and attempted murder following the incident in Finsbury Park in the early hours of Monday 19 June.”
The London Metropolitan Police then released their statement, confirming the charge:
“Following an investigation by the MPS Counter Terrorism Command, Darren John Osborne, 47, (3.11.69), from Cardiff, was today, Friday 23 June, charged with terrorism related murder and attempted murder. This was in relation to the terrorist attack in Seven Sisters Road, London N4 in the early hours of Monday 19 June. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.”
Darren Osborne, 47, was arrested at the scene and remanded in custody at Westminster magistrates court on Friday. Osborne, who comes for Cardiff, appeared in Westminster Magistrate’s Court wearing a police issued white t-shirt during a hearing that lasted just four minutes, the BBC reported. He gave his name, date of birth, and said he had no address.
