Here’s What the Cast of Buffy Look like 20 Years after the First Episode

Every little girl who watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer in the 1990s was immediately hooked. Whether it was the witty high school library banter, the supernatural goings-on or the steamy romances, the show had something to offer everyone and no one who watched it could quite manage to pull themselves away. Buffy was one of the first TV shows to feature a powerful female at the helm, finally showing girls that women didn’t always have to be the hunted, they could bite back and be the hunter – and we completely adored it for that.

My young self was with Buffy Summers all the way as she died (twice), fell in love with people she shouldn’t have (or monsters she shouldn’t have, as would be the case) and saved the world more times than any of us could imagine. Truth is, if the apocalypse came, we’d probably still beep her. Join us as we take a look at the talented cast 20 years after the first episode aired in 1997.

1. Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers

Our favourite kick-ass vampire slayer has remained in the spotlight since hanging up her stake. Sarah, who is married to Freddie Prinze Jr., went on to star in several movies including The Grudge and Scooby-Doo. More recently she co-founded Foodstirs, a food crafting brand and released a cookbook titled Stirring Up Fun With Food.

2. Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg

Alyson went on to have great success in the movie and TV industry with the American Pie films and How I Met Your Mother. At the moment you’ll find her working on CBS’ comedy pilot More Time With Family.

3. Nicholas Brendon as Xander Harris

Sadly Nicholas Brendon didn’t have as much success as his co-stars in life after Buffy; between 2014 and 2015 he was arrested multiple times and ended up going to rehab for alcohol addiction. Happily for everyone, now the actor is getting back to work with two movies already slated for 2017, the sci-fi film The Nanny and the horror movie Redwood.

4. Michelle Trachtenberg as Dawn Summers

You’ll recognise Michelle from her role as Georgina in Gossip Girl. Not to mention numerous other roles in TV shows such as NCIS: Los Angeles and Mercy, as well as movies like Sister Cities

5. James Masters as Spike

Sunnydale’s resident bad boy Spike ditched the peroxide and moved onto Smallville after the show finished; he has also had minor roles in numerous films, as well as lending his voice to Japanese anime TV series Dragon Ball Super.
