21 Jun American Student Released from Captivity in North Korea Has Died
Last month, the American student Otto Warmbier returned from North Korea in a coma. He had been imprisoned in North Korea for nearly two years, and returned home with significant brain damage. Doctors in his native Ohio described Warmbier’s condition as an “unresponsive wakefulness”, but were unable to identify what had caused his medical condition.
Now, roughly a week after he landed on June 13, Otto Warmbier has passed away in a Cincinnati hospital. In the wake of his death, his parents Fred and Cindy Warmbier blamed their son’s death on “the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans”, while President Trump has criticised the peninsula for their “brutality”. He was 22 years old.
