21 Jun Listen to Simon Cowell’s Charity Single to Raise Money for the Grenfell Tower Victims
The Grenfell tower block fire is now the deadliest fire in mainland Britain in more than a century. The latest catastrophe to befall the city of London, the calamity has caused more than 79 fatalities so far. The number of deaths are believed to increase as the days wear on, as forensic investigators happen upon and identify the remains of more missing people. The colossal inferno utterly engulfed the building, and scores of firefighters and other emergency services rushed to the scene of the disaster in the early hours of 14 June.
The survivors of the immolation have been left mostly homeless as a result of the fire, and although a number of charities have launched urgent appeals to provide aid to the unfortunate residents, as well as the families of the victims, it’s still clear that a huge amount of donations are needed.
In a bid to help the stricken, a number of British celebrities have pledged to use their awesome powers of publicity to raise awareness and assist those left in want by the blaze. In particular, X-Factor host and world-famous record producer Simon Cowell pledged to immediately create a charity single to support those badly affected, and received support from an eclectic number of prominent artists, musicians and performers.
In a statement made on ITV breakfast programme Good Morning Britain, Cowell, the Syco label boss stated: “We will record it hopefully and finish it Sunday, latest Monday. We already started to get a lot of people calling in saying, ‘Of course we would love to do it. People who can’t make it physically to the studio, we can record their vocals wherever they are in the world.” The single has now been released on Spotify, and if you’re keen to show support then you can now listen to it.
