‘I’m A Celebrity’ At Risk After Bush Fires Threaten To Burn Through The Camp

This 18th series of the British reality television show, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! has been a rollercoaster from the very beginning.

It began with the controversial decision to replace Ant McPartlin – one half of the famous hosts Ant & Dec – with Holly Willoughby, following Ant’s personal struggles which saw him arrested for driving under the influence earlier this year.

Whilst many were skeptical that the blonde bombshell couldn’t fill Ant’s shoes, it turns out that there was nothing to worry about. Holly is as natural hosting from the Australian outback as she is when on-set with Phillip Schofield on This Morning.

The line-up for this year was also applauded for its impressive list of familiar faces, including football manager Harry Redknapp and iconic theatre performer John Barrowman.

However, just before people could claim this to be the best series of the show yet to air, a disaster struck – and this time, it wasn’t in the form of Katie Price making yet another return to the jungle.

According to The Mirror, bosses on the show have grown increasingly concerned about several local bushfires which are drawing dangerously close to the I’m A Celebrity camp.

The towns of Oxenford and Wongawallen, both just a few miles from the camp, have already been evacuated.

According to a source, the show’s producers are now working closely with the local fire services to try and implement a plan of action and ensure that the camp is evacuated in a timely manner should the fires creep any closer.

“There is no immediate danger but the safety and the welfare of our cast and crew is our number one concern,” the source told The Mirror. “So we will continue to watch how the fires develop. We are really hoping they don’t get any closer to camp.”

The wildfires have slowly been tearing their way throughout Queensland, Australia and now they are threatening to hit the I’m A Celeb camp, which lies just short of Queensland’s border with New South Wales. The entire town of Gracemere, which has 8,000 residents, has already been evacuated.

The larger town of Rockhampton is also under threat, with all 80,000 residents being warned to prepare for an immediate evacuation.

“We have never, ever in this state been in this situation before,” said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, the head of Government in the state of Queensland. “We have not had a catastrophic level. This is uncharted waters.”

This wouldn’t be the first time the camp has had to be evacuated. Three years ago, due to a heavy rainstorm, the show suspended the Dingo Dollar challenge and evacuated the campmates from the bush as the heavy rainwater flooded the camp.

Hopefully, this year, that shall not be the case. And hopefully, the raging wildfires can be contained so that no more damage is affected on the area.
