23 Nov Viewers Outraged By Holly Willoughby’s Controversial Jungle Fashion Choices
Holly Willoughby is among the most likable faces on British television. Her bubbly personality (for the vast majority of viewers) is infectious, making her the perfect new co-host for ITV’s immensely popular reality series I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! alongside show regular, Declan Donnelly. However, Holly’s voyage Down Under has regrettably hit a few speed bumps along the way, landing the sunny TV star firmly in the rough.
The This Morning presenter is a frequent Instagram user, taking to the social media service to post her “Outfit of the Day” snaps each morning. And, as expected, this tradition is being upheld in the Australian jungle, with the 37-year-old debuting her looks ahead of the live broadcast each evening. However, some viewers are finding her outfit choices somewhat inappropriate.
Holly is no stranger to chic and womanly attire, often looking strikingly gorgeous on her regular morning magazine show alongside daytime legend Phillip Schofield, in addition to showcasing more alluring choices for her spot on the late-night comedy game show, Celebrity Juice.
But it seems I’m a Celebrity’s 9 pm watershed slot is being disregarded in this case; largely due to the show’s inherently family-orientated viewership. Holly’s style has been questioned several times since she took the plunge to Oz, but fuel to the fire was severely added when she debuted a particular dress online.
The ensemble in question is a beautiful red and black tartan chequered number. Captioned for her 4.4 million Instagram followers, the mom-of-three quipped, “Everyday we’re jungle-ing,” before adding hashtags and details to the various stockists of her attire.
With her shoulder-length hair framing her face and a neutral makeup regime, everything seems fine and dandy, but it is the length of Holly’s dress, along with the paired footwear, which has got several hot under the collar.
Paired with a high-waisted belt, the dress places much of Holly’s lengthy legs on display, leaving very little to the imagination. As perhaps expected, the reaction was mixed, with many disapproving of the message her looks are displaying to perhaps younger consumers, and whether her outfit choices are actually diverting attention from the show’s principal aim: Entertainment.
Fans and viewers took to the comment section to voice their opinions on the piece. One particularly frustrated viewer commented: “Just be YOU. It’s about the show, not what you are wearing. Have a word with yourself or your ratings will fall. FFS.”
Several more joined the chorus, adding: “Are you just there to do a fashion promo for friends and colleagues?” Whilst another quipped: “it’s a game show, not a fashion show! Jog on with your overpriced boots.”
Fans used to be appreciative of Holly’s daily process of showcasing her looks, with many agreeing that they worked for This Morning, but felt out of touch and misplaced for I’m A Celeb.
“Am I missing something here? Because I am just not getting it. Just go in jeans and a T-shirt, it’s way more appropriate for the show,” a concerned mother mused.
Despite a kickback in public reception, it seems as though many are very much enjoying Holly in this new role – one acquired in the absence of Dec’s long-serving partner and friend, Ant McPartlin, who has been battling with stints in rehabilitation. This series marks the very first time since the show’s debut back in 2002 that the double-act haven’t taken the jungle stage together.
Holly’s hard work and commitment have been praised by plenty online, and there were still many commenters who reacted favorably to her Australian fashion statements.
One supporter wrote: “Holly, you’re killing it with these jungle looks. Loved them all so far. I can’t decide which of your boots I want.”
Another raved: “Looking amazing. Keep it up, Holly,” followed by three raised hands symbols and red heart emojis. “Holly, you look gorgeous and so are your outfits. You’re doing a great job,” another fan posted.
In agreement, an ITV viewer noted: “Holly, you are looking absolutely stunning in the jungle. Every day.”
Viewers can catch up with Dec and Holly’s Down Under antics by tuning into I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! at 9 pm on ITV.
