Stating the obvious a little bit but finding out that someone has cheated on you has to be one of the most devastating things we go through as humans.

When you’re in a relationship that you think is going well, you pin all your hopes onto one person, and if they end up letting you down, the hurt you feel as a result can be utterly overwhelming.

And sometimes the way you find out about your partner’s straying can make it all the more devastating.

There are plenty of ways you can find out a partner has cheated. Sometimes it’s the people you love most in the world that break the news to you.

Perhaps your best pal saw your significant other going to third base with someone in the club, and that someone evidently wasn’t you.

Then there are the times you find out for yourself – perhaps by rooting through messages on their phone or the classic “finding another man/woman in your bed”.

Some people hear it straight from the cheater’s mouth. Potentially out of guilt, but more likely because you’ve grilled them until the point of confession or because they’re just intent on hurting you.

But just imagine being hit with this devastating news by a complete stranger. And no, on this occasion I don’t mean the person that your other half was cheating with.

Imagine being told by, say, your fast food delivery driver that the person you love most in the world was getting it on with someone else.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to 23-year-old Kayla Speer from West Burlington, Iowa.

In April, she was in what she thought was a committed relationship with a man who lived about three hours away from her.

Kayla, being the devoted girlfriend that she was, wanted to do something nice for her boyfriend, who was studying for his final exams.

So she ordered him a sandwich from his local Jimmy John’s restaurant and had it delivered to his address. (Awwwww!)

But while this story starts off the epitome of #RelationshipGoals, I’m afraid to say it takes a steep downhill turn from here on out. Because while the actual delivery went exactly as planned, Kayla wasn’t expecting it to end in the drama that it eventually did.

She certainly wasn’t expecting to get phoned up by the restaurant to be informed that they’d seen something pretty, well, suspicious in her boyfriend’s apartment.

After speaking to the delivery guy, she was made aware – beyond a shadow of a doubt – that her boyfriend had cheated and she didn’t stand for it.

Luckily for us, Kayla posted a series of tweets on the story where she spilled all the dirty details.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Kayla explained that she started dating her then-boyfriend for about five months before he was caught red-handed by the delivery guy.

“I called the Jimmy John’s in his city, and I said, ‘Hey, this is for the guy I’m dating,’” Kayla told BuzzFeed News.

That very call from Jimmy Johns would have the boyfriend feeling much less grateful for the sandwich than he initially was.

Because ultimately it led to one damning revelation…

Kayla found out from the delivery guy that he had a clear view inside the apartment as the door had a large window on it. And let’s just say, he certainly didn’t see much studying go on…

According to Kayla, the delivery driver felt very torn about what to do in the situation.

She told Buzzfeed: “He was like, ‘Honestly, it was so awkward I just wanted to get out of there, so I just gave him the sandwich and left.’”

When Kayla had confirmed that the guy wasn’t his roommate or any other guy, she thanked the delivery guy, hung up, and then called her boyfriend.

So Kayla called her boyfriend and the exchange turned out a little like this: “I was like, ‘Jimmy John’s just told me the situation,’” she said. “And he tried to make up a lie, saying, ‘It wasn’t me,’ but it was.”

Some days later, she broke up with him.

When the story became viral, Twitter users commended the sandwich chain for allowing the delivery guy to do the right thing and tell their customer that her boyfriend was playing with her.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the delivery driver for his honesty and for being so dead set on doing the right thing. If only there were more people like that in the world.
