27 Jun Amazing 89-Year-Old Grandma Goes Viral After Agreeing To Be Granddaughter’s Bridesmaid

It’s often said that the happiest day of your life is when you get married. After months, sometimes years, of preparation, you finally get to say “I do” to the love of your life and live happily ever after. All those difficult breakups that you’ve endured over the years are officially a thing of the past, and if you’re a millennial, you can take comfort in the knowledge that your phone will never play host to Tinder again.

Weddings are one of the most joyous occasions in life, and usually, the happy couple will go out of their way to make those closest to them feel special on their big day too. This often comes in the form of being asked to be best man or a bridesmaid – a role usually reserved for siblings and best friends. For newlywed Christine Quinn, this meant asking someone particularly special to step up: her grandma.

When Christine asked her Grandma Betty to be her bridesmaid, she wasn’t sure at first. At 89, she was considerably older than Christine’s other best friends, even if she was held in the same regard, and didn’t want to upstage her granddaughter on her big day.

Christine told the Huffington Post, “She asked me about 10 times, ‘Are you sure?’” and “Why would you want an old lady in your bridal party?”, however, not wanting to let her granddaughter down, “Nana Betty” eventually accepted her place in the bridal party.

Afterward, the 89-year-old then that being a bridesmaid made her “feel young” throughout the day.

Despite Betty’s age difference, Christine said she “had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments.”

Betty never let her age hold her back at the reception, either, and Christine revealed that she strutted her stuff on the dancefloor and even left with the bridal party on a “party bus” once the event was over – although Christina said what happened on the party bus stays on the party bus!

It’s a sad reality that for many older people loneliness becomes a day-to-day part of their lives when their partners and friends begin to pass away. That’s why they rely on their children and grandchildren to keep them occupied and happy during their twilight years.

So it’s no wonder then that Betty’s “radiant smile” in Christine’s wedding pictures have gone viral.

Julie Melton, Christine’s wedding photographer, described Betty as “beyond sweet, and yet that twinkle in her eye and big grin let you know that she’s got some fire in her.”

“Nana Betty – you are 89 years old and look like a million bucks in that bridesmaid dress,” the photographer continued.

“We see your joyous smile and can’t resist smiling back. You are making millions of people smile today, even if it’s just for a minute. It feels good and that is why everyone likes your picture so much.”

Speaking about her close relationship with her Grandma, Christine said, “While she doesn’t live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible.”

“She just has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her,” Christine said.

Christine told her grandma that the pictures of her went viral, and Betty was apparently “perplexed”.

One thing’s for sure – this story is a testament to the fact that you’re never too old to do anything. Hopefully, Christine’s decision to ask her Nana Betty to be one of her bridesmaids will inspire other people to do the same thing.
