03 Jul The Heartbreaking Reason Adele Cancelled Her Last Two London Shows
Adele has been heavily featured in the headlines these last few weeks, and not just for amazing performances during her worldwide tour.
Last Wednesday, whilst performing at Wembley the first words she spoke were “I have never been so f***ing scared in all of my f***ing life” and indeed, Adele has a history of stage-fright, and has been vocal about the anxiety and panic attacks that she has suffered through whilst performing.
We’re not surprised that the grammy-winning singer had a case of the nerves in the run up to her final four shows at London’s Wembley stadium. Dubbed “The Finale” as they end her 18-month tour for 25, the performances garnered quite the turnout. The opening show broke attendance records for Wembley by drawing crowds of 98,000, causing the singer to joke that she actually considered cancelling the performance the night before.
And certainly, Adele did have some news for attendees of the final four concerts. In a hand-written letter included in the tour programme, Adele stated:
“Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn’t suit me particularly well […] I’m a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things.
“I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don’t know if I’ll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home […] I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Love you. Goodnight for now.”
Fittingly, “The Finale” then seemed to mark the end of the singer’s live performances. And whilst all of us Adele fans uttered a collective, “NO” at the news, we were happy to hear that she’s taking a well-deserved rest. But recent news reveals about her break from touring may be coming a little prematurely, as the star has had to cancel her final two shows on doctors’ orders…
