25 Apr Kidnapper Is Moments From Crossing Mexican Border, When Eight-Year-Old Girl Foils Her Plan

The biggest fear of any parent is that their vulnerable children could one day find themselves in a dangerous situation, one which they are not yet equipped to deal with. The reality that there are people out there with evil intentions is something that parents sort of have to accept and just do their best to avoid.

In order to keep these concerns at bay, at least a little, some parents will decide to prepare their children for the event of an emergency.

Cole’s eight-year-old daughter and her younger brother were kidnapped by a woman who stole the car they were sitting in from a California parking lot. The woman tried to drive the vehicle, with the children inside, to Mexico, but her plan ultimately failed after the little girl used her wits about her to reverse the danger.

So what exactly happened? Well, eight-year-old Malaiah Cole and her three-year-old brother Jackson were left in the car while the engine was still running. Their dad was just taking a quick trip to the store when the unthinkable happened…

That’s exactly what one particular father, by the name of Rodney Cole, did for his daughter:

The kidnapper, later identified as 26-year-old Leslie Esparanza Saenz, jumped into the car and drove off.

“Daddy went in the store to buy some stuff, and then, the lady came and just got in the car,” Malaiah explained.

A witness tried to get their father’s attention by honking his horn. Cole responded by going outside only to see his car leaving the parking lot. He then ran after the car but Saenz zoomed off and it appeared it was too late.

“I saw my dad coming out the store and I saw him banging on the window, but she rolled the window up,” Malaiah said.

“And I was just stuck in the middle of the street, just crying and bawling. I didn’t know what to do. These are my babies,” Cole added.

A witness told KABC, the kidnapper was “probably less than two minutes away from actually crossing the border,” but soon enough, Malaiah being the clever kid that she is, knew exactly what to do. Her dad had given her an important piece of advice to use if she ever found herself in a dangerous situation.

Cole had told Malaiah exactly what to do in case of an emergency and she had the courage to initiate the steps that ultimately saved her life and her brother’s life.
