With unforgettable noughties’ hits like ‘Sk8er Boi’ and ‘Complicated’, Avril Lavigne is one of the biggest female stars of the last couple of decades.
The 33-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter was known throughout her career for her signature grungy look and her pop-punk tunes. But over the last few years, it’s fair to say we hadn’t heard much from her. In fact, some people even speculated that she’d passed away and was replaced with an imposter!
Here is the real reason, according to Nicki Swift, why we weren’t hearing from Lavigne:

Not only has the ‘Girlfriend’ singer been working on new music, but she’s had one hell of a makeover.
It’s been two years since the former teenybopper made her first red carpet appearance but on Sunday, she attended the 25th annual Race To Erase MS Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
In December 2016, she announced she that she was working on a new album, her first since her 2013 self-titled fifth major studio record. While she was there, she revealed that her first album since her 2013 (can you believe it?) comes out later this year.
“It’s a really powerful record,” she told E! in a red carpet interview. “I’ve been working on this for three years. I can actually say this time I’m going to be done with this album in two weeks and I will put it out this year.”
“I’ve been writing songs that are really just powerful and true and honest and sincere and I think people will really be able to relate to it,” she said. “I’ve gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years and so I’ve really drawn from that. I mean, I always do, but this album is so different… I am producing, too, the songs. It’s more of a vocal record and just like, hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It’s very piano-driven, too.”
Back in 2015, Avril was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and revealed this about the impact the condition had on her life and wellbeing, saying, “I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”
