03 Jul Girl Suffering with Horrific Acid Attack Burns Is Finally Given Fresh Hope

A young girl who suffered horrific burns as the result of an argument between her parents has been given a ray of hope in her recovery. Julie Kumari, seven, was caught up in the attack when she was just three years old and has had to live with the consequences ever since.

Julie’s face appeared to melt when her father, Manish, threw acid at her mother, Rani Devi, in a vicious and jealous rage over the fact that she had remarried, left her with severe burns on her face, neck, chest and shoulders. Manish had been aiming to throw the acid over the mother and her new husband, but Julie was asleep next to them and the substance went on her instead.

Heera Lal, the new husband, suffered 60 percent burns to his body ,and died in hospital shortly after the attack. Julie suffered 40 percent burns, which have affected most of her upper body, and her mother had to sell the family farm in order to afford the hospital fees.

Sadly, Rani was never able to afford the surgery her child required, so Julie had to recover from the burns naturally.

Rani, who earns the equivalent of £2 a day, spoke of the pain of seeing her child in this way: “It’s been devastating watching her suffer all these years. It used to hurt her to eat, talk and smile. Everything was a struggle for her. And it killed me inside that I couldn’t help her.”

Rani said that the injuries, alongside their terrible living conditions, mean that Julie’s quality of life quickly diminished: “She couldn’t do anything,” Rani said. “It broke my heart to watch her every day. I lost my husband, I didn’t want to lose my daughter too. I cried every night seeing by daughter in that condition. I desperately wanted her to get better. But my financial condition didn’t allow me to help my child.”

However,  Julie has now been given a ray of hope in her recovery.
