9 Simple Ways To Improve Your Mental Health This Year

Society has recently made a number of steps towards destigmatizing mental health conditions. It has been estimated that one in three people will suffer from a mental health problem at some point in their lives so it’s an issue which, directly or indirectly, affects us all.

The modern world has increased the prevalence of mental health conditions. Every day, we scroll through Instagram and Facebook timelines filled with the highlights of our friends and families lives, and, for some, this can have a negative effect on their mental health.

While there is no denying that comparing your day-to-day life with the highlights of other people’s can be damaging for your mental health, along with a host of other behaviors, it turns out that there’s a number of small steps we can all take towards keeping ourselves mentally happy.

1. Walk Tall

According to Time, a study found that people who walk tall are more likely to have positive thoughts. This means keeping your head held high and your shoulders back. Whereas those who slouch are more likely to focus on the negatives in the lives.

2. Take Fewer Pictures

In the modern world, we take more photographs than ever before, but a study published in Psychological Science suggests that our obsession with documenting everything could be harming our mental health. So it’s probably a good idea to resist Instagramming your every meal.

3. Exercise

If you exercise three times a week, your risk of being depressed decreases by 19 percent, according to a study by University College London. People who rarely exercise are more likely to be depressed, whereas those who are happier tend to exercise regularly.
