Let’s be honest, Westerners can be ignorant tourists. Unless it is written in plain English, we are skeptical about its legitimacy. In answer to this, tourist hot spots around the globe have adapted their signage to ensure that the Western world feels right at home.

In an attempt to ensnare a traveler, many establishments across the world pepper their menus and guidebooks with English words – although, often not the right ones.

Adapting languages can be a challenge for even the most skilled translators, let alone the internet. However, for small time businesses the free service that Google provides is much more attractive than an expensive translator. The problem is that, as these people discovered, you end up paying a much higher price for a dodgy translation…
