20 Of The Weirdest Deleted Wikipedia Pages

I’m sure I can’t be the only person who’s wondered how we ever managed to survive as a society without the benefit of Wikipedia.

OK, so maybe you’ll be sneered at by tutors if you use it as a source, but there’s no denying that it’s one of the most useful and education tools on the internet, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m one of those nerds who could spend an entire weekend browsing some particularly weird or interesting wikis out there.

But despite the online encyclopaedia’s vast scope and scale, its democratic approach, and its fundamental intuitiveness, it’s easy to forget that Wikipedia is fundamentally a crowdsourced project. Anyone can edit it – and I do mean anyone – which means that you’ll have thousands, if not millions, of crazies and nut jobs making bizarre and pointless edits every day, which inevitably end up being traced and deleted by those dedicated-yet-weary moderators. Usually, the site looks pretty professional, but it’s easy to forget that it’s all held together by a few lines of code and some prayers, and that most articles are rigorously screened. These are some of the proposed articles that didn’t make the cut, and all of them are pretty far out there.

1. This article rings a bell

2. Animal cruelty

3. A national pasttime

4. Classic PC game

5. Fish gay pride
