With thousands of romantic partners literally at our fingertips, Tinder has completely revolutionised the way we date. Before, people like me on the lookout for a hookup or relationship would have to go to a bar or club, and stumble their way through some awful pickup lines. Now, people can simply open up the app, match with someone who likes them back, and… stumble their way through some awful pickup lines.

Dating can be incredibly difficult, no matter how much you streamline the process, and a lot more people will swipe left on you than swipe right.

One way to ostensibly break the ice is with a nice bit of wordplay. I consider myself to be a purveyor of puns, but I’ve found that for every person who responds positively to a good (or bad) pun, there are many more who respond to them by never talking to me again (much like most people I meet in real life).
