The gift of language is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like to be unable to express my deepest thoughts and feelings, and I’d be loathe to think what our ancestors did before speech was invented. How would Ug tell Ooga he was in love with her, without clubbing her over the head and dragging her to his caveman cave? As great as language is, there are some phrases that strike fear into our hearts when they really shouldn’t.

On their own, “we need to talk” and “I’ll be back” sound fairly innocuous outside of societal context, but if you were to hear those in quick succession, you’d be fairly justified in expecting your significant other to dump you, shortly before a murder robot from the future who looks a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger rams a car into you, killing you instantly.
