Light, colour, and angle of a shot can completely transform a subject, reflecting totally contrary aspects of its nature. That’s right: an object or person might look totally different depending on how the picture was taken. Sometimes this phenomenon can conspire to really make a picture pop out, and to reveal a more interesting level of depth to a still image.

But other times however, a picture taken from the wrong angle can actually do more damage, and leave you feeling more confused by the disparity between what you’re supposed to be looking at and what you’re actually seeing. These visual illusions are a clear example of cognitive dissonance – a psychological state by which the mind holds too contradictory pieces of information simultaneously.
