16-Year-Old Teenager Dies After Drinking Liquid Meth At Request Of US Border Officers

Recent surveillance footage has been released that sheds light on the tragic death of a young boy at the U.S. border in 2013. The teenager was smuggling liquid methamphetamine into the country, pretending the two bottles contained juice, when he ingested the liquid at the behest of the customs officers.

Cruz Velazquez was entering the United States at the San Ysidro Port of Entry near San Diego when he was stopped by the US Customs and Border Protection Agency. He was carrying two drink bottles of an amber-coloured liquid in his backpack, telling the officers that he was carrying apple juice.

He wasn’t believed, and an initial test was carried on the liquid to discern whether it was dangerous. However, the test isn’t effective at revealing liquid methamphetamine, so he was sent to a secondary inspection site. It was here that he sipped on the liquid to prove it was only apple juice. Shortly after, he began convulsing on the floor. He was taken into custody, then later rushed to hospital, where he died.
