03 Oct 16 Terrible Tattoos That Will Make You Question Your Faith In Humanity
Getting a tattoo is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Your favorite quote when you’re 18-year-old is unlikely to hold much resonance when you’re in your 40’s. I got my first tattoo when I was still a teenager, and, whilst I still agree with the sentiment behind it, I’m planning to have it removed.
But, it’s not just the meaning of tattoos that can change. Tattoos fade, especially if they’re exposed to the sunlight, or if they’re done at too small a size. Trust me – my first tattoo is a line of poetry, and it’s barely legible now. That’s why it’s so important to research artists thoroughly.
Whilst it’s not the responsibility of your tattooist to be your copy-editor, any artist worth their salt won’t let fails like these happen…
1. It’s basic grammar…
This only works grammatically if it’s read as ‘Your beautiful lipstick’ and that in itself makes absolutely no sense. Yikes! If you’re going to have something tattooed on your skin for the rest of your life, the least you can do is make sure it’s done properly!
2. But it’s not just English that’s risky…
Don’t get me wrong, having Roman numerals tattooed to mark significant dates on your body is a common choice for a lot of people, but if you’re not the best at maths, please get someone who is to check whatever you’re having tattooed before it’s too late…
3. Don’t trust the internet…
The internet is awash with spelling mistakes and typos. That’s why you should check multiple websites if you’re relying on it for checking spellings, and once you’ve done that, ask a friend who you know has a solid grasp of the English language to check it for you as well.
4. This apostrophe makes no sense…
Whoever thought that there was an apostrophe in ‘goes’ really needs to take some English classes. But hey, at least they realised that it stands for the omission of a letter! This would actually be quite a decent tattoo if it wasn’t for this glaring, unforgivable error.
Horrendous tattoos like the ones on this list are rarely done at reputable establishments. Your risk of ending up with a misspelled tattoo goes up if you decide to visit a ‘scratcher’ – that’s the industry term for a self-taught tattooist.
