15 of the Oldest Colour Photos to Ever Exist That Reveal What Life Was like 100 Years Ago

What did the world look like 100 years ago? It’s a question that we often only get the answer to in black and white. Before 1907, if you wanted a photo in colour, you were forced to hire a professional colourist who would bring it to life using different dyes and pigments. That was until two French brothers called Auguste and Louis Lumière changed the game by creating a process called the Autochrome Lumière.

The Autochrome Lumière used dyed grains of potato starch and light-sensitive emulsion to produce vibrant pictures, completely vanquishing the need for additional colourisation, not to mention utterly revolutionising the world of photography. Lucky for you people Bored Panda managed to get their hands on some of the oldest colour photos to ever exist and they’re beautiful. Have a scroll down and discover for yourself what life was like over a century ago.
