James Bond is the man that every guy would like to be, and every girl would like to be on top of, right? I’m going to have to stop you there and tell you that this misguided theory is complete garbage. Or at least it should be.

After all, what self-respecting woman would want to be with a guy who treats them like dirt, and what decent man would actually want to be a guy who made demeaning comment, after demeaning comment? Even if he was a gorgeous MI6 undercover spy who saved the good British people on the regular and always had the newly released sports cars at his disposal…

Rather than being applauded for his good looks and uncanny ability to best the bad guy, the James Bond films should be called out for their multitude of not-so-magical moments that degraded women. And, although we can attest to the fact that the new offerings from the film franchise definitely improve on its treatment of women and bring something new to the table, from up close the table sometimes looks very much the same as it did before. Take a deep breath and prepare to witness the moments when the James Bond films were sexist as hell.

1. When he had “man talk”

The moment Sean Connery’s Bond sent away a girl called Dink because “man talk” was taking place; of course he didn’t forget to grope her ass without permission as she went

2. When he seemed to think a woman couldn’t be a doctor

“A woman?”, he asked when he came across a female doctor in Moonraker.

3. That time he silently judged a woman for being sexually free

When a woman he had just slept with insisted that her uncle still thought she was a virgin, he rolled his eyes and said: “Yes, well. You get your clothes on and I’ll buy you an ice cream.”

4. When girls were told they couldn’t swim properly

She’s swimming away from you, mate.

5. That Pussy Galore scene

In Goldfinger, Pussy clearly rejects Bond several times in the barn, even fighting him off before she is forced to kiss him. Many people have named this as a rape scene.
