11 Jul 12 Mind-Blowing Photos Taken By Drones In 2017

With the advent of Instagram, GoPro and Adobe PhotoShop, photography is an art that takes full advantage of modern technology, but drones have allowed us to take pictures that simply weren’t possible before. Unburdened by the limits of human safety, drones can fly high in the sky or in difficult-to-reach places, and provide us with cool perspectives or subjects that would be much more difficult to capture with a flesh-and-bone cameraman.

This year, National Geographic have held a competition for the best drone pictures since January, and in conjunction with Dronestagram, they put together the International Drone Photography Contest, which celebrates the best drone pictures in nature, with people, in an urban setting or with the utmost level of creativity. The winners have now been announced, and with each category there’s a second and third place, too. Check them out below!

1. First place in Nature – Summer Trim by Jerome Courtial in France

2. Second place in Nature – Infinite Road to Transylvania by Calin Stan in Romania

3. Third place in Nature – Ice Formation by Florian Ledoux in Greenland

4. First place in People – End of the Line by Martin Sanchez in the USA

5. Second place in People – Waterlily by a user named helios1412 in Vietnam
