10 Foods You Should Avoid Like The Plague If You Ever Want To Have A Flat Stomach

Now that summer is just around the corner, plenty of us are exchanging our sweaters for our crop tops because we can afford to show a bit of extra skin. And it’s around this time of year that we desperately try to attain that flat stomach we’ve always wanted.

Here are 20 foods that’ll help you lose weight:

However, there are plenty of things that will hinder you from achieving just that. Of course, not doing exercise is one of these factors, but it’s mostly about your food intake.

Some foods simply bloat your stomach more than others, so if you’re opting for a leaner look this summer, you might want to avoid the following foods:

1. Dairy

Dairy products such as milk and cheese can cause problems for your digestive system, and that’s especially the case if you happen to be lactose intolerant. Lactose is a natural sugar that is found in dairy products and those who are lactose intolerant don’t have the enzymes which would normally break it down.

2. Cruciferous vegetables

Examples of cruciferous vegetables include Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli. They have plenty of health benefits primarily because they’re a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and folate. They can even help protect against illnesses like cancer.

However, they also contain raffinose which is a type of carbohydrate that our bodies are unable to break down because we don’t have the enzyme to do so.

Raffinose is actually fermented by bacteria which often goes on to cause bloating. If you still want to include these vegetables as part of your diet, you might want to roast or steam them, making them easier to digest.

3. Foods which are high in sodium

Many of us consume more than the recommended daily amount of salt. When this happens, our bodies will react by retaining water leading our stomachs to bloat. As a general rule, the average person should not consume more than 2,300 mg of salt a day.

On the other hand, those who have high blood pressure or diabetes, or who are over the age of 50, should not be consuming more than 1,500 mg per day. Foods which are packaged and processed – such as deli meats, canned soups, and pre-made sauces – usually contain large amounts of sodium.
